Prof Dr Ivo Touw from the Hematology department has received the David Grimwade Award. The European Hematology Association awards this prize annually to a leading researcher in hematology.
Ivo receives the prestigious award for his research into bone marrow failure and leukemia predisposition syndromes. With a focus on the dysfunction of the membrane receptor for the growth factor G-CSF, the research has shed light on its role in the immune disorder congenital neutropenia and the progression of this disease to acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Ivo: 'The award is recognition for years of research conducted by a team of excellent PhD students, postdocs, analysts and bioinformatics scientists. I am very proud of that.'
Ivo received the David Grimwade Award at the EHA conference in Madrid, where he also gave a lecture. The award honors basic and translational researchers who are leading the field in hematology.
