On Thursday, June 26, Dorien Pastoors successfully defended her dissertation, titled "Super-enhancer activation of a repressor: EVI1 in AML."
Dorien conducted research on a very specific form of acute myeloid leukemia. In this group of patients, the EVI1 gene is overexpressed, and the cells do not respond to chemotherapy. Therefore, alternatives for these patients must be urgently sought. With her research, Dorien has shed some light on the abnormal expression and function of EVI1. With this knowledge, we hope to find ways to better treat these patients.
Dorien will now work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Dana Farber Institute in Boston, USA.
